Asteroids are small, rocky objects that orbit the sun. They have no atmosphere, and range in sizes of 530 kilometres in diameter, to less than 10 metres across. Even though there are more than 1,000,000 asteroids that we know of, the combined mass of all asteroids in the solar system would be less than the mass of the moon.
